Using cannabis and tobacco together can lead to dependence on one or both substances. Rolling them together in a "spliff" is common among users of cannabis and tobacco, however, a newer trend that has surfaced is using the two substances in a water bong. Users describe a very intense and immediate rush or head high from the tobacco before the effects of the cannabis set in.
There are several names for using cannabis and tobacco in a water bong. "Mokes", "chops",and "moles" are common names used by students. Users also describe becoming dependent on the tobacco and noticing a desire to smoke throughout the day as the cravings for nicotine intensify. Over time, students who are using cannabis and tobacco together often report breathing and other respiratory issues.
